The Watch are the neighbourhood citizen patrol of Messina, and are under the control of Dogberry. Charged with keeping guard over Leonato’s house on the eve of the wedding, they happen to overhear Borachio boasting of the part he has played in Don John’s discrediting of Hero. Realising the seriousness of the situation they promptly arrest him, and take him straight to Dogberry for examination.
